Goodluck Jonathan President sympathizes with Kano residents over Mosque bombing

President Goodluck Jonathan has extended messages of
condolence to the residents of the state and all who lost
loved ones in the blast while adding that the attack will be
fully investigated.

This was contained in a press statement released by
Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben
Abati . It reads:
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan extends heartfelt
condolences to the people and Government of Kano State over
the heinous attack on the Central Mosque in Kano, earlier
today. He commiserates with all the families who lost their
loved ones.
The President calls on relief agencies and medical personnel to
deploy every possible effort to assist the injured, and the
general public to heed the call for the donation of blood by the
hospitals where the injured are being treated.
The President has further directed the security agencies to
launch a full-scale investigation and to leave no stone unturned
until all agents of terror undermining the right of every citizen to
life and dignity, are tracked down and brought to justice.
The President reaffirms that terrorism in all its forms and
manifestation is a despicable and unjustifiable threat to our
society. He reiterates the determination of the government to
continue to take every step to put an end to the reprehensible
acts of all groups and persons involved in acts of terrorism.
President Jonathan calls on all Nigerians not to despair in this
moment of great trial in our nation’s history but to remain
united to confront the common enemy.
The President is confident that no terrorist act against fellow
citizens will destroy the Nigerian spirit to remain positive,
resolute and united in the quest for lasting peace and security
in the country. He appeals to all Nigerians to remain vigilant
and cooperate actively with our security agencies to win the on-
going war against terror.

OAU Students Protest Against Jonathan's Visit

Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) have
staged a peaceful protest on their campus against the
visit of President Goodluck Jonathan. They hauled
stones and sticks at the head of the country.

Hundreds of OAU students blockaded the road leading to
the school’s sports centre where the chopper wearing the
seal of the Federal Government and targeted Nigerian Air
Force, NAF-280, requesting that President Jonathan
should address them before departing the campus.

While Jonathan was leaving, some protesters continue to
aim stones at the chopper before they were dispersed by
security personnel, so none of the thrown missiles
reached the president.

It would be recalled that talks about Jonathan’s
impeachment have been actively circulating in the media
this week, which comes just two months ahead of the
presidential elections.

Ebola Outbreak Male survivors shouldn’t have sex for 3 months –WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has advised male
survivors of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) to abstain from
sex for three months in order to prevent further
transmission through their semen.
The WHO stated this on Friday adding that semen could
remain infectious until long after a patient is cleared of the
disease.
“Men who have recovered from Ebola virus disease should be
aware that seminal fluid may be infectious for as long as three
months after onset of symptoms.”
“Because of the potential to transmit the virus sexually during
this time, they should maintain good personal hygiene after
masturbation, and either abstain from sex (including oral sex)
for three months after onset of symptoms, or use condoms if
abstinence is not possible,” the WHO said in a statement.

HISTORY OF UNIZIK...READ THE ARTICLE.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University came into being as an offshoot of the defunct Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH). ASUTECH which was established through Law No. 7 of 30th July 1980 by the Government of the old Anambra operated as a multi-campus university, with campuses in Abakiliki, Enugu, Awka and Nnewi.
In 1991, following the split of the old Anambra State into Anambra and Enugu States, the Awka and Nnewi campuses of the former ASUTECH were constituent into Nnamdi Azikiwe University by the Anambra State Edict No.5 of November 26 1991. Nnamdi Azikiwe University was taken over by the Federal Government by Decree No. 34 of July 15, 1992. The enabling law of the University empowers the Senate to,
inter alia, make provisions for:
1.    The establishment, organisation and control of Campuses, Colleges, Faculties, Departments, Schools, Institutes and other teaching and research units of the University and allocation of responsibility for different branches of learning;
2.    The organisation  and control of courses of study at the University and of examinations held in conjunction with those courses, including the appointment of examiners both internal and external;
3.    The award of degrees and such other qualifications as may be prescribed in conjunction with examinations held as aforesaid.

Mission & strategy:
The mission of the University is, thus, to use teaching, research and public service to solve societal problems. In the process of learning, students would be oriented to use education in the solution of practical problems confronting them and the Nigerian society.

OBJECTIVES OF THE UNIVERSITY
Specifically, the Decree establishing the University provides for the underlisted objects:
To encourage the advancement of all branches of learning and to hold out to all persons without distinction of race, creed, sex or political conviction, an opportunity of acquiring higher and liberal education;

To provide courses of instruction and other facilities for the pursuit of learning in all its branches and to make these facilities available on proper terms to such persons as are equipped to benefit from them;

Summary : These strategies for success will emphasize our desire for high quality education, wise investment of University resources, result oriented and problem solving curricula. These are mediated through the reorientation of staff attitude to effect pragmatic teaching and development, output mix, research, good governance and management.

Put together, the Mission Statement and Decree No. 34 of 1992 identify the Operational Objectives of the University. Our strategies for their success will be clearly tied to our ability to plan expertly and manage the activities of the University based on extensive internal consultations and consensus building with staff and students through management audit and brain storming sessions. Already many of these are in place and are viable. For instance Academic Planning and Physical Planning Units, Central University Monitoring Committee (which monitors the commitment of staff and students to the objectives of the Decree as well as the tenets of the University’s motto) are functioning effectively. Furthermore, the adoption of Management Information System (MIS) to manage change posed by leadership challenges in appropriate socio-economic endeavours and well planned business initiatives will be vigorously pursued.

OUR MOTTO
The motto of the University is “Discipline, Self Reliance and Excellence.” The rationale for this motto is that discipline is a pre-requisite condition for the achievement of any goal. Discipline embodies endurance, continuity and determination to start afresh when previous efforts fail.

It is believed that discipline will give rise to self reliance, which entails confidence in one’s self and abilities. The amalgam of a disciplined mind with self confidence will yield excellence
